Steel Structure Packaging and Transportation

Whether a steel structure project is for domestic use or export, packaging and transportation represent critical final steps.
Upon completion of steel components, inspections are conducted in accordance with project drawings, applicable standards, and customer specifications.
Only after passing inspection are appropriate packaging measures implemented to support long-distance transportation and ensure smooth handling, loading, unloading, and installation at the job site.
For exported steel structure projects, the quantity and size of required shipping containers must be estimated and booked in advance. Given the considerable weight and volume of steel structures, sea freight is generally the preferred mode of transport. It is essential to reserve space with the freight forwarder early and complete loading within the designated time frame to meet the vessel schedule and ensure on-time delivery.

Steel structure buildings involve relatively complex components. In addition to large steel members, they include numerous doors, windows, and small parts.Packaging must be sturdy enough to avoid damage during transit, while also facilitating efficient transportation and handling.

Steel structure packaging and transportation:

1.Each large steel component is assigned a unique identification number to ensure accurate quantity control. The paint coating on large components must be fully dry prior to loading.Packaging shall be designed to protect the coating from damage, and to prevent components and accessories from deformation, damage, or loss. The loading sequence and method are also critical.Improper loading may result in installation difficulties for certain accessories, or insufficient packing compactness. This can lead to shifting and shaking during transit, causing severe surface damage and indentations

2.Small parts and accessories in steel structure products, including bolts, washers, connecting plates, angle irons and so on, shall be packed in cartons or bundled securely. The outside of each package shall be clearly marked with the box number, component name, quantity, weight and other key information.A detailed packing list shall be enclosed for the customer’s inspection and verification.

3.Since glass is fragile during the transportation of doors, windows and other accessories, it must be protected with wooden cases to prevent damage.Wooden cases should not be oversized, and shall be suitable for loading and unloading by forklifts. If door/window keys and locks are not convenient for assembly and transportation, they shall be packed separately and listed in a detailed packing list for easy verification.

4.If the steel structure is to be installed immediately after production, small parts and accessories may be directly attached to the corresponding steel components without boxing. However, they must be securely tied or bolted into place, and shall not interfere with transportation or installation.

5.All accessories should be clearly labeled and detailed on the packing list. The packing list shall be prepared in advance and verified item by item to avoid any unnecessary issues caused by missing parts.

Steel structure buildings consist of a large number of components.Proper packaging and loading facilitate handling, loading, unloading and transportation, while saving shipping space and reducing freight costs.Careful inspection and verification prior to shipment can minimize unnecessary losses resulting from misdelivery or missing items.
