How To Insulate Metal Building

Thermal insulation work in metal buildings should follow a standardized procedure to ensure construction quality and long‑term performance. The typical sequence includes surface preparation, fixing of insulation supports, laying of insulation materials, sealing of joints, installation of protective layers, and final inspection. Strict compliance with the construction sequence helps improve thermal efficiency, fire safety, and overall structural stability.

Procedure for thermal insulation installation in metal building

1.Positioning and installation of vertical purlins
2.Fixing of end portions
3.Horizontal lapping
4.Vertical lapping
5.Placement of roof slabs

Roof structure construction

1.The glass wool blanket used for steel-structured buildings should be laid perpendicular to the purlins. For glass wool with a facing layer, the facing side shall face the interior of the building to achieve an attractive finish and favorable reflective performance. Reserve approximately 20 cm of the blanket at one eave and secure it to the outermost purlin using dedicated fasteners or double-sided tape.

2.During installation, maintain proper alignment and tension of the glass wool blanket. Extend the material to the opposite eave, leave another 20 cm margin, and fix it to the outermost purlin with double-sided tape.

3.Adjacent glass wool blankets may be joined together by stapling along the edges of their facing layers.

4.Install the roof colored steel panels. Remove the temporary fasteners at both eaves, and use the reserved 20 cm facing to wrap and seal the glass wool, thus achieving excellent moisture-proof performance.

Wall structure construction

1.The facing side of the glass wool roll should be directed toward the interior of the building. Unroll the material from the eave to the corner, and fix it to the bottom purlin with double‑sided tape, leaving an extra 20 cm margin.

2.Cut the glass wool roll 20 cm above the top wall purlin and secure it with double‑sided tape.

3.Fold back the glass wool and proceed with the installation of the wall color steel panels.

4.The horizontal joints between adjacent glass wool rolls are connected by stapling along the facing overlaps.

Notes
1.During installation, ensure the glass wool blanket remains tight and aligned, with close‑fitting joints between adjacent rolls. If longitudinal overlapping is required, the overlapping section shall be positioned at the purlins.
2.Depending on project requirements, rigid insulation boards may be installed on the roof as required to prevent cold bridges.
